GERRIE WEST, AIA, LEED AP
Folck West Architects Founding Partner Gerrie West holds a Masters of Architecture from Virginia Tech, a BS in Interior Design, and extensive coursework in Sustainable Design and Community Design and Revitalization. With over 30 years of experience as a practicing Architect in the Tidewater area, she brings both technical expertise and local knowledge to her projects.
Locally raised by environmentally-aware parents before there was a term to describe it, Gerrie continues the mission on both personal and professional levels. She is an avid organic gardener and supports local, small-scale farming through her position on the Board of the Old Beach Farmer’s Market. She spent a year living aboard a small sailboat, exploring East Coast waterways from the Chesapeake Bay to the Florida Keys.
In her architectural practice, Gerrie works with her clients to incorporate environmental sustainability and encourages efficient footprints, creative use of materials, and thoughtful consideration about conserving our natural resources. Proper siting, energy efficiency, and the use of materials and details appropriate to harsh coastal environments are integral to every project. She is a LEED Accredited Professional.
As a member of the Virginia Beach Resort Advisory Commission’s Planning and Design Review Committee, she has worked to incorporate efficient land-use criteria into the City’s development decision-making processes. These efforts include initiating an AIA “Sustainable Design Assessment Team” report, and the ongoing process of creating the Resort Area Strategic Action Plan and accompanying Design and Development Codes. She is a past Chair of the Virginia Beach Historical Review Board.
Gerrie is a member of The Civic Leadership’s class of 2006-2007, and was named one of Hampton Roads Outstanding Professional Women in 1998.
